From Austin to Dallas: Top Vegan Spots in Texas

The Lone Star State Goes Plant-Based

Texas might be famous for its barbecue, but the plant-based dining revolution is well underway from the Gulf Coast to the Panhandle. These cities are leading the charge.

Austin: The Pioneer

Austin has the deepest and most established plant-based scene in Texas. Counter Culture, Arlo’s, and Vegan Yacht remain the gold standards, while dozens of new concepts continue to open each year.

Dallas: The Contender

Dallas is rapidly closing the gap with Austin. Vegan Food House, Spiral Diner, and several new fast-casual concepts have created a genuine plant-based ecosystem in North Texas’ largest city.

Houston: The Surprise

Houston’s extraordinary diversity means that plant-based options spanning Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Mexican, and Indian cuisines are all available at a world-class level. Mo Better Brews and several Montrose-area spots lead the way.

San Antonio: The Heritage City

San Antonio’s deep connection to tex-mex tradition is being reimagined through plant-based lenses at a growing number of spots. Look for spots using heirloom peppers and locally ground masa.

Traveling Between Texas Cities

The best approach to exploring Texas’ plant-based scene is to treat each city as a distinct culinary destination. Each has its own personality, its own strengths, and its own irreplaceable spots. Budget at least a full day of eating in each location — you’ll need it.
