Moosewood

We were very excited to eat here and it’s rare to find a vegan/vegetarian only restaurant. Despite not being vegetarian, I felt very fortunate to eat here and would be happy to order a few more items off their menu. It was very busy but the ladies in charge were very patient and rather sweet. In hindsight I’d ask a few more questions to get their insight but nonetheless they did a great job of explaining the options. Definitely recommend reading everyone else’s reviews and looking at photos of some of the meals posted online to help make choices as the dishes are quite unique. The portion sizes are sensible so you could order a starter and an entree without feeling too full. This is sometimes a concern when eating out for me atleast.

Excellent food and a good atmosphere!

Having owned the Moosewood cookbook for decades, I was excited to visit this culinary icon of vegetarianism. We loved the green pea hummus especially, but all three dishes we ordered were delicious. Emily provided excellent service on the covered patio. The nicely appointed gift shop, displaying many of the MW cookbooks, had unexpected delights. I purchased a locally made candle with an unusual yet pleasant scent. My only negative which resulted in 4 stars is the inside tables are very close to each other and the original table was crammed next to a wall and was very wobbly. We opted for the outdoor seating as a result. We suggest they consider giving patrons a bit more space indoors.

Excellent vegetarian food even if you're not a vegetarian. The portions were generous, and everything was fresh. The staff was very friendly and the place was very clean. I can't wait to go back!

The restaurant was a find during my impromptu visit to Ithaca. I read up on the place and saw that it was one of the pioneers in promoting vegan forward cuisine. Even though I love my meat, the menu was so interesting that I had to try it out. And I will say this place did not disappoint. The food was amazing, it was just what I expected. Vegan forward with some amazing ingredients and really tasty. What was a surprise were the amazing craft cocktails, they were banging! Shout-out to the bar folks they have created an amazing menu and the drinks are good! All in a great place to unwind with some great food and cocktails.

We tried this place based on the high ratings, but it didn’t live up to the hype. For drinks, we had the Pickle Martini and Messenger Dove — both were decent but nothing memorable. Food was hit or miss. The green pea hummus was just okay, the black bean burger had good flavor but was quite dry, and the Thai curry was a complete letdown. It was supposed to include baby corn, tofu, and carrots, but all we got was one small piece of baby corn, one piece of tofu, and the rest was just carrots. It didn’t taste remotely like Thai curry either. Service was also underwhelming. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and were told the table wasn’t ready. Oddly, there were empty tables in plain sight. After waiting 20 more minutes, they finally seated us at one of the tables that had been empty the whole time. Overall, the experience didn’t justify the ratings or the hype. Wouldn’t recommend.

Grabbed lunch with my partner on July 2nd Food was just okay, a little pricey for what it was, I expected a 19 dollar bean burger to be have a more flavor but the texture was good. Wedge salad was similarly adequate. Chocolate cake was good but not good enough to justify everything else. The service was bad. We were seated on the patio and the hostess and runners were nice enough, but the waitress's attitude was, for lack of a better word, sneering. From our first interaction with her, it just felt like she hated our guts in a way I have never experienced eating. I have worked as a server before and I would understand if she had been busy and forgot something, or other normal issues, but her attitude made me feel uncomfortable in a way I have never felt eating out.

We had to wait a while. However, the food was very good and our waitress was excellent.

LOVE Moosewood! I tell all my customers and friends to head there if they're looking for either a special date night, a place to experience the best of Ithaca's local farm scene, or just for an easy and always delicious meal. The décor is elegant and simple and the cocktails are a must.

Had the macrobowl. Portion size was small, but perfect for a lunch. Great service and atmosphere. Recommend.
