Miss Chickpea's Cafetal

We love their pastries, but they are a little expensive. They are nowhere near us so we have to make a special trip. We don't get to go there often. Usually we do not have any issues, but had a customer service issue at our most recent visit. They have since made it right and we can not wait to go back.

This is a hidden gem 💎 From pastries and coffee to lunch, they've mastered it all. My kids love to go and get pupusas and some vegan gansitos whenever we can. Everything is made with clean ingredients and all the lunch items are made to order.

Clean, quiet, and hospitable with all vegan options. Lots of delicious dessert options. The food options and the food itself are pretty good. Not a huge venue space and the food does take a long while to arrive. Prices are also high.

So I get here around lunch time and the place is dead empty (first red flag I know), but despite this they’re all out of the kolache flavors I wanted to try. No problem, I ordered something else. Food was a little bland, so I ask a guy behind the counter for salt. So this weird dude checks the area immediately around him and is like, “umm… we don’t have salt.” I ask if he can bring some from the kitchen and he brings me pepper. The desserts were just ok, but I prefer the ones from Sprouts. One thing I did like about this place is they have all these squishmellows around, so I had a little collection of them all to myself while I ate.

Restroom was out of order which sucked. The frozen oatmeal cookie was nice with a good mouthfeel However I was unsatisfied with the pop tart pastry which didn't taste has good as a regular pop tart. Staff were okay. The atmosphere inside is a bit empty and the tables are too close together on the wall. I found the bar seating next to the window uncomfortable.

They are kind which is so refreshing. The food is cooked & served hot, love that! They make suggestions which I also like. My gingerbeer w/ matcha was better than I thought it would be. The sandwich was very yummy!

Stopped by today as I drive by quite frequently. Was curious about their food. They have a great selection of pastries. Was extremely disappointed in their customer service! The cashier repeated my order back to me exactly, served me the wrong thing, and forgot I was in the store waiting for the rest of my order and began serving others that came in after me. Had to remind her multiple times I had been waiting for my food. She was angry and had her coworker come to apologize and make excuses for her as she was more interested in other patrons than completing her previous task. It was rude and unprofessional. Will not be going back.

It would be 5 stars if they were open until 5 pm . The meals and pastries are great!😁

So there I was, minding my own business, headed toward a totally different restaurant when—bam!—Miss Chickpeas Cafetel on Callaghan Road in San Antonio popped up like a delightful little plot twist in my lunch plans. The name alone caught my eye, and I figured, hey, why not shake things up? The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, which already made this detour feel like a good decision. The vibe? Super cute, cozy, and definitely a place with regulars (always a good sign). And while I’ll be honest—I was a little skeptical about vegan food (I mean, can it really compete with the meaty classics?)—that hesitation melted the second I laid eyes on their baked goods case. Vegan and gluten-friendly treats that looked like they just stepped off a dessert runway? Yes, please. Before I even touched a menu, I was already halfway sold. I chatted with the friendly staff, and one of them enthusiastically recommended the Breakfast Sammy. Throwing caution—and my meat-loving instincts—to the wind, I ordered it along with a German chocolate cupcake that was practically whispering sweet nothings from the dessert case. When the food came out, it looked great. The vegan bacon threw me for a second—it definitely looked different—but once I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised. Not your traditional bacon texture, but flavorful and satisfying in its own right. The ciabatta roll was soft with just the right amount of chew, and the whole sandwich worked really well together. What made the experience even better? The staff came to check on me, genuinely interested in how I was enjoying my first dive into their menu. We chatted a bit, and they let me know their baked goods come from their local bakery right here in San Antonio. Major bonus points for supporting local. All in all, Miss Chickpeas Cafetel was a refreshing, feel-good surprise. It’s a great lighter option when you want something satisfying but not heavy. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their breakfast offerings—and probably sneak in another cupcake (or two).
