Mixed experience Good pacing and some creative dishes, plus excellent fermented non-alcoholic drinks. However, service felt impersonal and detached. Staff went through the motions without much warmth. Noticed the kitchen was all-male and open concept. 20% tip automatically added to bill. Food and drinks show promise but service needs work.

Chef Aaron's love letter to fine dining, family, and fermentation. Loved my experience and the familiarity.

Astera truly is the stuff of dining dreams! While that might sound hyperbolic, one visit will reveal that it’s actually an understatement. You can expect a scintillating showcase that each season of Oregon’s bounty has to offer. Chef Aaron Adams’ commitment to detail with the entire mission is unmatched, from the expertly curated beverages right down to the locally made dinnerware on which the ever evolving menu is served. I am perpetually excited to see their latest creations. It is always an exquisite experience and an overall inspiration that makes me extra grateful to live in Portland.

My son brought me here for a belated Mothers day gift. I was skeptical about some of the ingredients in my food, but wildly surprised about how delicious & perfectly beautiful everything was! And the service superb! It was a wonderful experience all around! I plan to come again to share with a friend.

If you are considering the chef's counter experience, do it. Chef Aaron is warm and welcoming, watching everything be prepared is an absolute treat, and the food is comforting, creative, and incredibly delicious. One of my all time favorite dining experiences.

The asparagus tartlet and spicy strawberries were my favorites, but the entire meal was phenomenal. The water kefir pairings with each course were a perfect compliment.

Having been 2 times now I was worried the second time with a different menu may not be as lovely as I previously remembered. That thought was unfounded as the food was even better than I remembered and the experience of eating it is something we will be eagerly looking forward to again

Incredible experience from start to finish. Perfectly satiated at the end. Each course has flavors bursting in your mouth… I was in awe. Such a great way to celebrate my birthday. Thank you Astera team! Will definitely be back to try each menu. ❤️

Dined in 3/16/25 for the abbreviated tasting menu seating at 4p. Menu was superb. I've visited other restaurants offering tasting menu only service and the atmosphere and service can sometimes be a bit stiff. Not so at Astera - the dining room is decorated like a well-lived in home, service was friendly and personal, each course was accompanied by a joyful rundown of the ingredients and cooking methods by the head chef. Bonus points for the banging soundtrack which featured Nick Drake, a bunch of Bowie and the Velvet Underground. Even walked out with a few kefir grains after expressing my developing interest in fermentation to the chef. Must visit vegan fine dining spot!

The dishes were very beautiful, but the entire experience was not worth the price. Some dishes were not well balanced (had a small primary component with a lot of very strong tasting sauce that overpowered everything else for example). The dessert was great.
